Cloud and Network Engineer

Hands-on systems, documented projects, and continuous learning.

I work in infrastructure with a strong focus on enterprise networking and DNS. My background includes large-scale network operations, IP address management, and DNS architecture in high-availability environments. I am currently expanding that foundation into cloud infrastructure by combining certification progress with hands-on infrastructure projects, homelab systems, and detailed technical documentation.

Current role

Network Information Engineer II supporting enterprise DNS infrastructure and IP address management for Leidos, a major government contracting organization.

Career direction

Expanding from enterprise networking and DNS engineering into cloud infrastructure through hands‑on projects, infrastructure documentation, and certification progress.

Near‑term plan

AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner completed. Currently preparing for the Solutions Architect Associate while continuing to build and document hands‑on AWS projects. Next focus will be Terraform Associate to reinforce infrastructure as code and automation.

About

I enjoy building reliable systems, organizing infrastructure clearly, and documenting configuration in a way that makes future changes easier. My background is strongest in networking and DNS, and I’m using that foundation to grow into cloud infrastructure and automation work.

Portfolio Overview

This portfolio documents my current work, certification progress, and hands-on infrastructure projects. It will grow over time as I expand my homelab, earn certifications, and build additional cloud-focused systems.

Professional Experience

DNS and infrastructure engineer with 14+ years supporting enterprise network platforms and critical production systems.

  • Design and support enterprise DNS infrastructure for both internal and external services, including architecture, record management, and operational reliability.
  • Responsible for IP address management and remote site network provisioning across a distributed corporate environment.
  • Serve as a Tier 3 escalation point for complex DNS and network incidents and regularly assist with cross‑team troubleshooting during high‑impact outages.
  • Maintain authoritative infrastructure records for remote sites and support operational configuration of F5 load balancer VIPs and managed UPS systems.
  • Background in high‑volume enterprise Network Operations Center environments supporting large‑scale infrastructure and incident response.
  • Recognized for mentoring engineers, developing standardized documentation, and acting as a technical liaison between networking, security, and server teams.

Featured Project

Private Recursive DNS Infrastructure

A self‑hosted DNS platform built on Raspberry Pi that provides network‑wide ad filtering, private recursive DNS resolution, internal service naming, and secure remote access through Tailscale. The project focuses on building production‑style infrastructure at small scale while documenting architecture, configuration decisions, and operational lessons learned.

Engineering Highlights
  • Network‑wide DNS filtering and management using AdGuard Home
  • Recursive DNS resolution implemented with Unbound
  • Private service naming through internal DNS records
  • Secure remote access to home infrastructure via Tailscale
  • Full architecture documentation and operational notes maintained in GitHub

Projects

Additional infrastructure and cloud projects that demonstrate hands‑on system design, documentation practices, and practical problem solving.

AWS Static Website with Cloudflare

Static website hosted using Amazon S3 for object storage and Amazon CloudFront for global content delivery. Integrated with Cloudflare for DNS management and additional edge optimization, including HTTPS, caching, and performance improvements. This project demonstrates hands-on experience with AWS hosting architecture and CDN layering.
